When the Ridley Park native isn't working a shift at Bertucci's Brick Oven Pizza in Springfield, he's usually in Philadelphia studying business at Temple University to pursue his dream of entrepreneurship, loved ones say.
But Sean was recently diagnosed with stage 4 Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a relatively aggressive cancer that attacks the lymph nodes and has spread to his lungs.
Now, his community is stepping up to ensure he won't fight alone.
"Sean is the gold standard for what makes a great employee," wrote Mike Marino, general manager at Bertucci's, in a GoFundMe campaign.
"With this being said, Sean will have to take time off from work in order to prioritize his health," Marino continued.
"He will be battling this diagnosis as he tries to maintain his college career as a student of business. The last thing Sean and his family should be worrying about is the financial burden that this diagnosis brings," the manager said.
As of Wednesday, Nov. 16, the fund drive has raised a staggering $11,615, surpassing its $10,000 goal in little over a week.
Marino said Sean is set to begin treatment toward the end of November. Until then, he's staying optimistic.
"Despite being constantly sick and recently receiving this news, Sean remains positive and confident about overcoming this diagnosis," his boss wrote.
